3 DRAWS

3.1         An open draw for each competition shall be made publicly in the clubhouse on a date published in advance.

3.2        Draws shall be made by lot.

3.3        There shall be no seeding.

3.4        Draw Sheets shall be posted on the Club Notice Board within seven days of each draw.

4 MATCH DATES

4.1         While the responsibility of making contact between opponents rests with the TOP named player(s), all players should contact their opponents as soon as they are known in an attempt to arrange a mutually agreeable date and time for the playing of their match.

4.2        Where a mutual date and time cannot be readily agreed or arranged, the TOP named player(s) in each match shall, not later than 14 days after the posting of the Draw Sheet or not later than 10 days after the closing date for the previous round, offer their opponent(s) at least three dates for the playing of the match. The earliest date and latest date offered shall be at least 16 days apart.

4.3      For the Mixed Midweek Singles the dates offered must be all midweek dates. For the Men's and Ladies' Singles, Pairs, and the Mixed Pairs the dates offered may be all weekend dates: a player may not refuse to play at a weekend.

4.4        The BOTTOM named player(s) in each match shall, on being offered dates by the TOP named player(s), select one of the dates offered and choose the teeing off time, and shall respond to the opponent(s) within 18 days after the posting of the Draw Sheet or within 14 days of the closing date for the previous round.  The BOTTOM named player(s) shall be responsible for booking the tee.

4.5        In the event of opponents being unable to make contact with each other, a letter addressed to the opponent(s) posted in the Club Members' Mail Box, 8 days before a deadline, shall be accepted as proper notification.

4.6        To assist the Competition Secretary the date and tee off time arranged for a match should be entered by the players on the Draw Sheet.

4.7        The winner(s) of each match is/are responsible for entering the name(s) of the winner(s) on the Draw Sheet.

5 SUBSTITUTES

5.1         A player in a pairs match may be substituted for another player after the draw but not after the side has played its first match in the competition.  The substitute must not have been in the original draw for the competition and must meet the qualifications in 1 above.

5.2        Once a substitution in a pairs match has taken place, the original player substituted, may take no further part in the competition.

5.3        In a pairs match, if one player of a side is not present at the appointed time, the match shall start without that player.  Should the absent player arrive after the start of the match, the player may join the match at the playing of the next hole.  Strokes received shall be based on the lowest Handicapped player whether present or not.

6 FORMAT & HANDICAPS

6.1        Men's, Ladies' Singles

Format:                                     Match Play - Singles

Handicap allowance:        The player with the lower handicap plays off scratch.  The other player receives strokes based on the full difference between their handicaps.  Strokes shall be taken according to the Stroke Index.

6.2        Men's, Ladies' & Mixed Pairs

Format:                         Match Play - Four-ball (better ball)

Handicap allowance:        The player with the lowest handicap plays off scratch.  Other players each receive strokes based on 3/4 of the difference between his or her handicap and that of the player with the lowest handicap.  Strokes shall be taken according to the Stroke Index.

Note - if the player with the lowest handicap is not present for the match, strokes received are still based on his or her Handicap. Where men and ladies are playing in the same match, the ladies' handicaps are increased by four to take account of the differences in their SSSs. The adjustment is made before any other calculations are made (e.g. before determining the player with the lowest handicap in the Mixed Midweek Singles or before reducing the strokes received to 3/4 in Mixed Pairs)."

6.3        Mixed Midweek Singles

Format:                                     Match Play - Singles

Handicap allowance:        The player with the lower handicap plays off scratch.  The other player receives strokes based on the full difference between their handicaps.  Strokes shall be taken according to the Stroke Index.

6.4        Players shall play each match to their current handicap.

7 MATCH RULES

7.1         Ladies shall play from Blue tees.  Men shall play from White tees. All Final matches shall be played from White Discs.

7.2        A player in a singles match or a side in any other pairs match, failing to arrive at the arranged time for a match shall, in the absence of circumstances that warrant waiving the penalty (see Rule 33-7)  lose the first hole or, unless it is a Final Match, shall be disqualified if more than 5 minutes late.

7.3        Order of play from the first tee shall be decided by the toss of a coin.

7.4        The normal Rules of Golf shall apply. Any disputes regarding the Rules of Golf shall be referred to an Official Club Referee. (Fulvio Angelleli – Derek Robinson or Malcolm Wadsworth)

7.5        Caddies may be used at anytime, however out of courtesy please inform your opponent(s) if you plan to have a caddy for your match.

7.6        The Committee shall appoint a Referee for each final match. A final match played without a Referee shall be void and the match shall be replayed with a Referee in attendance.

7.7        In the event of a match being all square after 18 holes, extra holes shall be played under the same handicap allowances until a hole is won.

8 DISQUALIFICATION

8.1         Except in a final round, if it has not been possible to arrange a mutual date and time for a match under 4.1 above and the TOP named player(s) fail to offer match dates to the opponent (or to one of the opponents) within the time specified in 4.2 above, the TOP named player(s) shall concede the match to the BOTTOM named player(s) who shall progress to the next round.

8.2        Except in a final round, if it has not been possible to arrange a mutual date and time for a match under 4.1 above and the BOTTOM named player(s) are unable to select one of the dates offered or fail to give a teeing off time or fail to respond to the opponent (or to one of the opponents) within the time specified in 4.4 above, the BOTTOM named player(s) shall concede the match to the TOP named player(s) who shall progress to the next round.

8.3        In a final round, any difficulty in arranging a date or failure to comply with the procedures in 4 above must be referred to the Competition Secretary or a Committee member immediately.

8.4        On the closing date for a round, except the semi-final and final rounds, any match result not entered on the competition draw sheet shall result in both sides of the match in question being disqualified.

8.5        Any player who is no longer a member or whose handicap is suspended on the day a match is scheduled to be played, shall be disqualified.

8.6        It is the intention that all rounds shall be played by the closing dates listed.  In the event of a player/side being unable to play in a final round through extended illness or injury or through being disqualified prior to the final or for some other reason, the Committee may require that the player/side be replaced in the Final with the beaten semi-finalist(s).

9 DISPUTES

9.1         Any disputes arising in respect of compliance with these Competition Rules shall be referred immediately to the Competition Secretary for resolution. Any appeals against decisions made by the Competition Secretary shall be made immediately in writing to the Club Secretary for consideration by the Committee at its next meeting.  A decision by the Committee shall be final.
